I have had this thermometer for a year, and have relied on it to tell me if my 1-2 year old had a fever whenever she felt warm. It never registered anything unusually high, and I figured for the higher price, it should be pretty reliable.
It wasn't until just recently, when my 2 year old daughter had a 103 fever, that I discovered that this thermometer is terribly inaccurate. Repeatedly, it would report that her temperature is 97,98,99, when a rectal thermometer, color changing strip, and just the touch of my hand would tell me her temp was really 103. I tried it on myself, and it said I was the same temperature as her! I tried it in multiple locations on both our temples, and the battery level is fine, but it still gives terribly inaccurate readings.
