Save American Red Cross - Rapid Read Ear Thermometer

I received this thermometer as a gift when my baby was born. The first time I used it, it said my baby had a temperature of 104.1. I panicked and prepared to rush him to the emergency room. I tried a second reading (in the same ear), and that reading showed 97.9; the third reading was 100.5, followed by 102.7. I then switched to a cheap oral thermometer that cost less than $10, and that one showed a consistent reading of 100.3. I am very disappointed in the poor quality and unreliability of the rapid read ear thermometer. The worst part is, if I hadn't been lucky enough to have a cheap spare thermometer, I would not have known whether my baby actually had a fever, and, if so, how high the fever was.
