I have had this scale for a few years, but like other people here, I have discovered that it doesn't last. Replacing the battery made no difference. It's past the warranty period, so that's not an option. The Soehnle people say that they don't repair. I hate the throw away society we've become, but it's a useless item now. I ordered this puppy thinking it would be amazing after a friend's glowing rerview of the brand (He had a Zeta). Couldn't be further from the truth! It didnt work... I would weight 170 lbs then get off, get back on and weight 65 lbs - cute trick but not possible in the real world of a size 12.

I bought this and another model at the same time (one for mom), they both had similar issues. I even had some friends check it out when they were over. Same problem for them too.

So I figured what the heck, I'll replace them for the same brand and model... maybe its some crazy fluke? I mean, how on earth could two different models of scale be defective twice? These are not $20 hardware store scales, after all!

I was wrong... defective again.., both of them... crazy! The numbers wont even come up on this one. It's all dashes and dots and peices of what you can tell may be digital numbers IF the rest of the peices were there.

So I did a little research and am going to replace these with Prevention's suggestion of the HoMedics Tri-Fitness Scale (also on sale at Amazon) for about the same price.

Save Homedics SC-405 Electronic Digital Scale with 1.3LCD Display, Silver

I had an older model Homedics glass scale that had cheap plastic legs that broke after a couple of years ($70+ at JCPenny with $50 gift card for X-mas). This SC-405 scale was sent to replace it, but keep in mind that to qualify for the LIFETIME WARRANTY, you have to ship them the scales, and these scales aren't light, so you're looking to spend around $8-14 to ship. 3 months and 6 days later, the new scale SC-405 stopped working right. It was a little cooler in the house 70 degrees at eye level, maybe 62 or so on the ground. The scale would not zero and repeated error messages after the weight fluctuated up 60 lbs and down 40 lbs. I warmed the scale up lightly and it still would not work. It's nice to have the glass scales, but you need something that works, not just something that looks pretty. Wal-Mart would've gotten me a cheap working scale just for the price of shipping. If HoMedics will not reimburse the cost of shipping the scale, the only choice I have is to buy a new one and wait until they upgrade their scales to file for lifetime warranty and hope the Chinese schoolgirls have had some proper college training. I bought a Soehnle from a M. Parizek from Sahuarita AZ, through eBay; Amazon is selling and shipping it instead, go figure!
Anyhow, after returning my first Soehnle that displays funky numbers in lieu of real values (and for mighty shipping expenses); I got back another item that display flawed behavior 2 weeks after using it. Pushing gently the scale to display the 0.0 is not working consistently. You have to drop the scale from one or two inches high to get the display to come up. This scale is by far the best I have ever owned, and I have gone through my fair share. Its consistent, accurate and pretty looking. This was honestly the best present I got this year.
